We
had just two players attend the Heart of England Tournament at the National
Indoor Arena (NIA) in Birmingham - Ben Green & Sophie Daniels.
Ben
0
Wins 2 Losses - Silver
Sadly
there was only one other competitor in Ben's category, so the organisers
decided to run a 'best of 3' fights. Ben was pretty much over powered by his
much bigger opponent, but did put up a much improved performance in his second
contest.
Sophie
4
Wins 0 Loss - Gold
Four straight Ippon wins for Sophie would, on the face
of it, seem like a pretty easy days work but that wasn't really the case.
Sophie had to work very hard to produce this set of results against the best
U19yr players in the country. The two months hard work put in over the summer
to improve her contest winning Tomoe-Nage (Stomach Throw) produced some
excellent results which was particularly pleasing for me.
Sophie also fought in the Senior event where she had two good wins and ended up
in 5th place. Not the result either of us had hoped for, as we had expected
that Sophie would reach the Final, but overall a good start to
the beginning of the judo new year.
